On a chilly evening, nothing beats curling up in front of a fire. In addition to providing reliable warmth, your fireplace also creates a calming atmosphere. Your Harris County home’s fireplace is without a doubt one of its most-loved features. A fireplace requires the same level of maintenance as any other feature, which includes thorough cleaning.

Byproducts of combustion build up in the firebox and chimney, such as soot and creosote, and these byproducts are highly combustible. A chimney can also accumulate outdoor debris like leaves, twigs, and acorns. Fireplaces are often a shelter for animals as well. This combination of factors can result in a chimney fire.

One in seven fires in homes was caused by heating equipment, including fireplaces, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Failure to clean these types of equipment, primarily chimneys, caused the most house fires between 2014 and 2018. How do you reduce the risk of danger? Ensure that your chimney is inspected and cleaned frequently by professionals. What are the tell-tale signs that you should contact a Baytown, TX chimney repair? Contacting a chimney repair company near you is a must if any of the following apply to you.

The last time you had a cleaning was over a year ago

According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), chimneys should be cleaned and inspected annually. When you haven’t had your chimney cleaned for over a year, it’s time to call your local chimney repair company to clean your chimney. Keeping track of the last time you had your chimney cleaned is a great way to stay organized and set a reminder for a few weeks before the anniversary. There are strange odors in the area

It could be an indication that your fireplace isn’t ventilating properly if smoke is overwhelming and permeates your entire VarCounty County house when a fire is burning. Clogged chimneys and flues can negatively impact ventilation. It is also a sign that too much waste is in your chimney when you notice odors coming from it even when the fire isn’t active. The mixture of creosote, soot, ash, and other organic materials in your flue can cause unpleasant odors to develop in your house, and those unpleasant odors may spread to other parts of your home. It’s time to schedule an appointment with a Baytown, TX chimney repair company if you smell strange odors coming from your fireplace, regardless of when you notice them.

Strange sounds are being heard

If your fireplace makes any strange sounds, such as scratching, chittering, banging, or gnawing, that could be a sign that animals are nesting in it. Various critters, such as birds, bats, raccoons, and squirrels, can take shelter in chimneys. Animals who have established themselves inside your chimney can become quickly ignited as soon as the fire in the fireplace is lit, putting them – and you – at risk. Additionally, if animals live inside your chimney, it is possible that they may eventually move inside your house, which is something you do not want to happen. Whenever you hear strange noises coming from your fireplace, search for a chimney sweep near you immediately. It might be that animals are, in fact, causing the noise. If that is indeed true, a professional chimney repair company will remove any debris the animals have left behind and identify Baytown, TX the source of the noise.

Your fireplace is inefficient or smokey

Is it difficult for you to start or keep a fire going? Has your fireplace been producing excessive amounts of smoke lately? If so, there is a chance it is time to contact Baytown, TX chimney repair.

It could also be the result of burning unseasoned wood, which has a higher moisture content and potentially results in a smokier fire; however, it could also be a symptom of a chimney problem. If there’s too much creosote and soot buildup in your chimney, or if there are cracks in the masonry, this could be the cause. Smoke production increases when both issues are present. In addition to thoroughly cleaning your fireplace and chimney, the chimney repairs near you will also inspect the masonry to determine if there are any cracks or other issues contributing to the problem.

Some information about Baytown, TX

Baytown is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within Harris and Chambers counties. Located in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area, it lies on the northern side of the Galveston Bay complex near the outlets of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. It is the sixth-largest city within this metropolitan area and seventh largest community. Major highways serving the city include State Highway 146 and Interstate 10. At the 2010 U.S. census, Baytown had a population of 71,802, and it had an estimated population of 77,192 in 2019.

White American settlers first arrived in the now-Baytown area in 1822. One of its earliest settlers was Nathaniel Lynch, who set up a ferry crossing at the junction of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou. The still-operating ferry service is known as the Lynchburg Ferry. Other early settlers of Baytown included William Scott, one of Stephen F. Austin’s Old Three Hundred, and Ashbel Smith, who owned a plantation in the area.

The city now known as Baytown was originally three separate towns. The first of these was Goose Creek, named for the bayou of the same name where Canada geese wintered and whose name is still reflected in the area’s Goose Creek school district, whose establishment dates back to before 1850. With the discovery of the Goose Creek Oil Field, the rival communities of Pelly in the late 1910s, and East Baytown in the early 1920s, developed as early boomtowns. The ‘East’ in East Baytown was later dropped because it was west of Goose Creek.

Serious talk of merging the three cities began shortly after World War I, but the community of Baytown was opposed to this idea. However, in 1947, the three cities finally agreed to consolidate. The citizens settled on the name Baytown for the new combined city. Baytown as it is known today was officially founded January 24, 1948.
