The Benefits of Regular Chimney Repair

There’s nothing like a fireplace on those chilly nights in Harris County. The fireplace is certainly one of the most attractive features in a home, but it is extremely important to take good care of it. It is very important to keep the chimney of your Harris County fireplace clean in order to prevent smoke and soot buildup. In accordance with the guidelines set by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), chimneys should be repaired and cleaned annually; however, if you use the fireplace frequently, you should do so at least twice a year. The question then arises, ‘Why is regular chimney repair and cleaning needed?’? Let’s find out.

The number of chimney fires is reduced

Harris County chimneys accumulate combustion byproducts with each fire you burn. Creosote and soot are also among these byproducts, both of which are highly combustible. The debris from outdoors, such as leaves and twigs, can also collect inside a chimney; animals also use these structures to nest. Harris County residents are at risk of chimney fires, which can easily spread through the walls and completely engulf the entire home. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that one in seven house fires were caused by heating equipment, including fireplaces, and that failure to clean the equipment – predominantly chimneys – was a primary cause.

The risk of dangerous fires can be significantly reduced with regular chimney repairs and cleanings. Your chimney will be swept by a professional Westfield, TX chimney repair and cleaning to remove creosote and other outdoor debris. Animals will be checked for and removed if needed.

How to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning

An odorless, colorless gas called carbon monoxide is produced by the fire. Carbon monoxide normally escapes your Harris County house through the chimney; however, if the chimney is clogged with combustion byproducts, leaves, sticks, and/or animals and their nests, it will impact the airflow. Carbon monoxide produced by a fire will be pushed back into your house if the airflow of your chimney is inefficient. A carbon monoxide poisoning can negatively impact your health for the rest of your life, and it can even cause death.

Regular chimney repair and cleanings are essential to the safety of yourself and your family. In order for carbon monoxide to properly escape your Harris County home, a professional chimney repair will remove all waste and debris from inside your chimney.

    Efficient utilization of resources

It is most efficient to burn fires in a clean chimney. Cleaning chimneys will ensure proper airflow, which is necessary for the proper burning of fires. As your chimney will be swept for Westfield, TX to remove creosote, soot, and any other debris, animal, and even dirt you find inside it, the fires you burn in your fireplace will receive the oxygen they need to burn properly and efficiently.

Harris County homes are less likely to be damaged

Your chimney’s flue will accumulate soot over time as a result of emissions from the fire. In a chimney, a flue draws smoke up and out, but the more soot accumulated on it, the less efficient it is at doing so. Smoke will therefore return to your Harris County home instead of exiting through the chimney. It is possible for smoke to damage your fireplace hearth, the walls surrounding your fireplace or chimney, even your flooring, curtains, windows, and furnishings. In addition to leaving a black film on everything it touches, smoke is highly corrosive.

Call a chimney repair in Westfield, TX to prevent the unsightly and costly damage smoke can cause. A chimney repair and cleaning professional will remove the soot buildup from your flue, thus ensuring that smoke will flow out of your Harris County home instead of back into it.

    Some information about Westfield, TX

Westfield is an unincorporated community in Harris County, Texas, United States located along Interstate 45 and the Union Pacific Railroad nineteen miles (30 km) north of Downtown Houston.

In 1846 Herman Tautenhahn, a German immigrant, built a general store near Cypress Station. By 1876 Westfield was established; the community was named after Gadi F. West, a man who owned a field along the International–Great Northern Railroad. In 1873 a post office opened. Tautenhahn moved his store closer to the rail line. Westfield’s economy consisted of loading goods such as cattle, cotton, hides, and lumber from local warehouses and cattle pens onto freight cars. The community shipped a tonnage of goods equalling that shipped by nearby Spring. By 1890 Westfield had 200 people, of which most were Anglo-American and German-American. The community included several sorghum manufacturers, three churches, three combination gristmill and cotton gins, one steam sawmill, and one school. Some residents manufactured barrels, farm implements, and furniture. In 1905 Westfield became an overflow point for employees from the nearby Humble oil field. Between 1925 and 1930 the population increased from 50 to 450. During the Great Depression the population decreased to 50. During World War II 200 residents and 10 businesses were in the community. The population decreased to 125 after the end of the war. By the 1950s Farm to Market Road 1960 was constructed. In 1962 the store established by Tautenhahn, renamed Big T Shopping Center, moved to the intersection of F.M. 1960 and Interstate 45. The population stayed at the same level from the post-war years until the mid-1960s, when it increased to 275. From 1966 to 1990 the population remained at 275 and the area had a maximum of 32 businesses. The area post office closed in 1972. The state of Texas did not find population figures for the year 2000.
