Signs You Need Professional Chimney Services in Harris County

When the weather outside is frightful, cuddling up in front of your fireplace is so delightful; however, an experience that’s supposed to be enjoyable can quickly become a serious hazard if your chimney isn’t functioning properly. In Harris County fireplaces, the chimney is one of the most important components, since it directs combustion’s byproducts – smoke, creosote, soot, and ash – up and out of the house and into the outside air. Instead of being an asset, your fireplace can become a liability if the chimney is dirty, clogged, or otherwise damaged.

If you want to ensure that spending time around your Harris County fireplace is always a pleasant experience, being aware of the signs that chimney service is required is absolutely necessary. Masters Services in Jersey Village, TX should be called as soon as possible if you see any of these telltale signs:

    Strange Sounds

Are you hearing strange sounds coming from your fireplace or the walls of your chimney? Perhaps scratching, banging, knocking, chittering, or squealing? There’s a good chance that wildlife has taken up residency in your Harris County chimney. Animals such as squirrels, raccoons, bats, and birds can nest in chimneys and make their homes there.

The moment you suspect that animals are living in your chimney or are certain that they are, you need to get in touch with a company that offers expert chimney services right away. A fire can ignite nesting materials and animals, which not only harms the animals but also can cause a full-blown house fire. In the event that animals are found inside, a reputable Jersey Village, TX chimney cleaning will remove them and their nesting materials safely.

    White Spots

Is the exterior of your chimney covered in white spots? If so, that is an indicator of moisture intrusion, and moisture is a chimney’s worst enemy. A white spot appears when moisture permeates the brickwork and pushes salts from within. This is called efflorescence. White stains are left behind by the salt left behind when moisture dries. The stains might be able to be removed and cleaned, but the underlying issue needs to be addressed or you might face bigger problems down the road. As moisture continues to penetrate the chimney, brick and mortar will degrade, and eventually, the whole structure could collapse.

You should contact a Harris County chimney service company at the first sign of efflorescence. Jersey Village, TX chimney cleanings, inspects and repairs chimney problems by identifying the source of the problem and making the necessary repairs.

    A Damaged Flue

Professional Chimney Services in Addison, TX

One of the most important parts of a chimney is the flue. Flues are fireproof liners that prevent heat from being transferred to combustible materials in your Harris County house, thereby reducing the likelihood of a chimney fire. As a flue deteriorates over time and is regularly used, pieces can break off and collect in the firebox. Get in touch with a professional chimney service right away if you notice tile pieces in your fireplace. Damaged flues pose a huge threat to a chimney, however, a reputable chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair company can restore your home’s safety and address the problem.

    Inefficient, Smoky Fires

Do your fires burn slowly or do they seem to go out frequently? Have they been generating excessive amounts of smoke that collects inside your Harris County home and creates a strong odor? If so, you are facing a big problem and should seek out professional chimney help right away. Inefficient, smoky fires can be caused by a number of issues; a blocked chimney, damaged flue, or a malfunctioning damper, for example. A Jersey Village, TX chimney cleaning and repair company will be able to identify the cause of the issue and make the necessary repairs.

Some information about Jersey Village, TX

Jersey Village is a city in west-central Harris County, Texas, United States, located at U.S. Highway 290, Farm to Market Road 529, and the Southern Pacific Railroad. The city is located in the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The population was 7,620 at the 2010 census.

The 1936 Harris County highway map indicated several residences in the area. Clark W. Henry owned 1,236 acres (5.00 km2) of land on which he operated F&M Dairy and raised Jersey cattle. Henry discontinued his dairy when his health declined, and he gave the land up so a residential community could be built in 1953. Henry and LeRoy Kennedy, members of the Garden Oaks Baptist Church, began developing the community in February 1954. At first the city had 5 miles (8 km) of streets and drainage, gas, sewage, and water services. Several houses were established along Jersey Drive. The first family moved to the subdivision in late October 1954. The community developed a school, a park, and an 18-hole golf course. Jersey Village incorporated on April 16, 1956, with all 58 votes in favor of incorporation and a volunteer police force. Because of the incorporation, Houston did not incorporate Jersey Village’s territory into its city limits.

In 1961 Jersey Village had 493 residents. On July 6, 1972, Leonard Rauch gave Jersey Village a city hall building; as of 2008 the building is used for the fire department and public works departments. In 1977 the city passed a bond issue, leading it to construct a new city hall, a city garage, a park pavilion, and an expansion of the fire department building. In 1980 the city had 966 residents. In 1982 this figure increased to 4,084. In August 1986 officials announced that the city passed a home rule charter with a passing vote of 306-36. Under a home rule charter Jersey Village gained more taxation and governing powers than it had as a general law city. In 1988 the population increased to 5,143. In 1990 Jersey Village had 4,938 residents.
