Top Reasons to Contact a Chimney Specialist Right Away

Nevertheless, a fireplace and its accompanying chimney can develop problems like any other part of your house.

Chimney Cleaning Specialist in Addison, TX

In case of problems, you should contact a Friendswood and TX chimney cleaning and repair professional as soon as possible. Unattended problems will get worse, and eventually, you will face more serious problems. Further, you may have to deal with more costly repairs down the road, as well as a possible danger to your safety.

When should you contact a chimney specialist near you? Friendswood, TX chimney cleaning, and repair companies need to be contacted right away if you’re experiencing any of the following:

Deteriorating Mortar

Masonry work is held together by mortar. Your problem will become much more serious if it starts to deteriorate. It is possible for the bricks or stone that make up your Harris County chimney to become loose, moisture to get inside, or even the chimney’s integrity could be compromised. Exposed mortar can also be damaged by the elements.

Additionally, poor-quality materials and construction can weaken the mortar, causing it to crack or loosen. Whenever you see signs of mortar damage, call Masters Services in Friendswood, TX. A chimney specialist near you will assess the structure and make the necessary repairs to secure the chimney.

A Rusted Damper

Are you having difficulty operating your damper? Then you may have rust, and that’s a very serious matter. A rusted-out damper indicates water is infiltrating your chimney somewhere.

Rust occurs when a damper is exposed to moisture, so it is likely that the damper was exposed to moisture before it rusted. Moist conditions are the most hazardous to chimneys.

A chimney deteriorated by moisture will lose its structural integrity and the mortar will degrade. Mold can also grow in other areas of your Harris County home – the sheetrock, framing materials, or insulation, for example – and eventually, you’ll have a mold problem. You should contact a chimney specialist as soon as possible if you’re having trouble opening or closing your damper. In order to determine the source of the moisture intrusion and correct it, a reputable Friendswood, TX chimney cleaning, and repair specialist must conduct a thorough inspection.

Efflorescence

Another sign that your Harris County chimney is in trouble is an accumulation of white powdery substance or crystals. The discolorations are caused by efflorescence, a condition that occurs when moisture penetrates masonry. If the masonry dries out, either the water draws the salt out of the brickwork or the water’s minerals leave deposits.

A chimney with moisture in it needs to be swept by a Friendswood, TX professional. Having a chimney specialist in your area identify the cause of the moisture and make the necessary repairs will fix the problem.

Spalling

Another sign of moisture intrusion in a chimney is spalling. Depending on the type of brick, stone, concrete, or whatever material your Harris County chimney is made of, water can erode the surface and cause pieces to fall off and collect in the firebox. Friendswood, TX chimney cleaning should be contacted immediately if you notice any signs of spalling in your fireplace, even if it’s just a small amount. Chimney specialists will thoroughly examine your chimney and determine where the moisture is entering and how to fix it.

Some information about Friendswood, TX

Friendswood is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. The city lies in Galveston and Harris Counties. As of the 2010 census, the population of Friendswood was 35,805.

Friendswood, situated in the northwest corner of Galveston County, has the distinction of being the only permanent town in Texas that started as a Quaker colony. It was established in 1895 by a group of Quakers led by T. Hadley Lewis and Frank J. Brown. They were looking for a ‘promised land’ to start a colony of the people who belonged to the religious denomination called Friends or Quakers.

From its founding, life in Friendswood revolved around church and school. After the small church and school building was demolished in the 1900 Storm, the two-dozen families living in Friendswood erected a large two-story frame structure for their church and school. The building, called The Academy, housed the school and sanctuary until a larger, stone building replaced it.

Through the 1940s, Friendswood was predominately a small, remote, farming Quaker community with less than 500 citizens. The economy depended largely on growing and preserving Magnolia figs. After 1950, it became increasingly a suburban bedroom community, as Houstonians discovered the idyllic country setting the farmlands were converted to subdivision home-sites. The community became a city when it incorporated in 1960.
