Top Reasons to Contact a Chimney Specialist Right Away
Having a fireplace in your Harris County home is a focal point. The fireplace provides more than just warmth; it also adds architectural interest and is a great place to relax and enjoy family time. Nevertheless, a fireplace and its accompanying chimney can develop problems like any other part of your house.
In case of problems, you should contact a Cypress and TX chimney cleaning and repair professional as soon as possible. Unattended problems will get worse, and eventually, you will face more serious problems. Further, you may have to deal with more costly repairs down the road, as well as a possible danger to your safety.
When should you contact a chimney specialist near you? Cypress, TX chimney cleaning, and repair companies need to be contacted right away if you’re experiencing any of the following:
Masonry work is held together by mortar. Your problem will become much more serious if it starts to deteriorate. It is possible for the bricks or stone that make up your Harris County chimney to become loose, moisture to get inside, or even the chimney’s integrity could be compromised. Exposed mortar can also be damaged by the elements.
Additionally, poor-quality materials and construction can weaken the mortar, causing it to crack or loosen. Whenever you see signs of mortar damage, call Masters Services in Cypress, TX. A chimney specialist near you will assess the structure and make the necessary repairs to secure the chimney.
A Rusted Damper
Are you having difficulty operating your damper? Then you may have rust, and that’s a very serious matter. A rusted-out damper indicates water is infiltrating your chimney somewhere.
Rust occurs when a damper is exposed to moisture, so it is likely that the damper was exposed to moisture before it rusted. Moist conditions are the most hazardous to chimneys.
A chimney deteriorated by moisture will lose its structural integrity and the mortar will degrade. Mold can also grow in other areas of your Harris County home – the sheetrock, framing materials, or insulation, for example – and eventually, you’ll have a mold problem. You should contact a chimney specialist as soon as possible if you’re having trouble opening or closing your damper. In order to determine the source of the moisture intrusion and correct it, a reputable Cypress, TX chimney cleaning, and repair specialist must conduct a thorough inspection.
Another sign that your Harris County chimney is in trouble is an accumulation of white powdery substance or crystals. The discolorations are caused by efflorescence, a condition that occurs when moisture penetrates masonry. If the masonry dries out, either the water draws the salt out of the brickwork or the water’s minerals leave deposits.
A chimney with moisture in it needs to be swept by a Cypress, TX professional. Having a chimney specialist in your area identify the cause of the moisture and make the necessary repairs will fix the problem.
Another sign of moisture intrusion in a chimney is spalling. Depending on the type of brick, stone, concrete, or whatever material your Harris County chimney is made of, water can erode the surface and cause pieces to fall off and collect in the firebox. Cypress, TX chimney cleaning should be contacted immediately if you notice any signs of spalling in your fireplace, even if it’s just a small amount. Chimney specialists will thoroughly examine your chimney and determine where the moisture is entering and how to fix it.

Some information about Cypress, TX
Cypress is an unincorporated community in Harris County, Texas, United States, located completely inside the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston. The Cypress area is located along U.S. Highway 290 is twenty-four miles (35 km) northwest of Downtown Houston. The Cypress urban cluster ranks 50th in the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the United States.
The recent find of a San Patrice projectile point at the Dimond Knoll site nearby on Cypress Creek attests to a human presence in the area by 7500 BC. By the early historic era, the area around present-day Cypress was populated by Atakapa and Akokisa Indian tribes, but they soon disappeared after the appearance of German settlers in the 1840s.
The German heritage is most notably reflected in the names of some of the major thoroughfares of the area, such as Huffmeister and Telge Roads. General Sam Houston and his Texas Army camped in the area on March 22, 1836 on the way to Harrisburg, which is now in East Houston, just days before the Battle of San Jacinto.
The area remained mostly rural until the early 1990s when developers began construction of several master-planned communities. The area is often referred to as Cy-Fair or Cypress-Fairbanks, which comes from when the Big Cypress School and Fairbanks High School combined in the 1930s to form Cy-Fair High School and the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. In March 2008, the Cypress Historical Society (CHS) was formed as a non-profit corporation with its primary mission being ‘…to discover, educate, promote, collect, preserve and make available to the public, historical documents and artifacts of the Cypress area’. The CHS organization holds regular events aimed at exposing Cypress’ residents to the historical and cultural foundation upon which the area was built.
