Top Reasons to Contact a Chimney Specialist Right Away
Having a fireplace in your Harris County home is a focal point. The fireplace provides more than just warmth; it also adds architectural interest and is a great place to relax and enjoy family time. Nevertheless, a fireplace and its accompanying chimney can develop problems like any other part of your house.
In case of problems, you should contact a Channelview and TX chimney cleaning and repair professional as soon as possible. Unattended problems will get worse, and eventually, you will face more serious problems. Further, you may have to deal with more costly repairs down the road, as well as a possible danger to your safety.
When should you contact a chimney specialist near you? Channelview, TX chimney cleaning, and repair companies need to be contacted right away if you’re experiencing any of the following:
Masonry work is held together by mortar. Your problem will become much more serious if it starts to deteriorate. It is possible for the bricks or stone that make up your Harris County chimney to become loose, moisture to get inside, or even the chimney’s integrity could be compromised. Exposed mortar can also be damaged by the elements.
Additionally, poor-quality materials and construction can weaken the mortar, causing it to crack or loosen. Whenever you see signs of mortar damage, call Masters Services in Channelview, TX. A chimney specialist near you will assess the structure and make the necessary repairs to secure the chimney.
A Rusted Damper
Are you having difficulty operating your damper? Then you may have rust, and that’s a very serious matter. A rusted-out damper indicates water is infiltrating your chimney somewhere.
Rust occurs when a damper is exposed to moisture, so it is likely that the damper was exposed to moisture before it rusted. Moist conditions are the most hazardous to chimneys.
A chimney deteriorated by moisture will lose its structural integrity and the mortar will degrade. Mold can also grow in other areas of your Harris County home – the sheetrock, framing materials, or insulation, for example – and eventually, you’ll have a mold problem. You should contact a chimney specialist as soon as possible if you’re having trouble opening or closing your damper. In order to determine the source of the moisture intrusion and correct it, a reputable Channelview, TX chimney cleaning, and repair specialist must conduct a thorough inspection.
Another sign that your Harris County chimney is in trouble is an accumulation of white powdery substance or crystals. The discolorations are caused by efflorescence, a condition that occurs when moisture penetrates masonry. If the masonry dries out, either the water draws the salt out of the brickwork or the water’s minerals leave deposits.
A chimney with moisture in it needs to be swept by a Channelview, TX professional. Having a chimney specialist in your area identify the cause of the moisture and make the necessary repairs will fix the problem.
Another sign of moisture intrusion in a chimney is spalling. Depending on the type of brick, stone, concrete, or whatever material your Harris County chimney is made of, water can erode the surface and cause pieces to fall off and collect in the firebox. Channelview, TX chimney cleaning should be contacted immediately if you notice any signs of spalling in your fireplace, even if it’s just a small amount. Chimney specialists will thoroughly examine your chimney and determine where the moisture is entering and how to fix it.

Some information about Channelview, TX
Channelview is a census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area and Harris County. The population was 38,289 at the 2010 U.S. census.
Channelview was given its name since it is located on the northeastern curve of the Houston Ship Channel. The site of Channelview was home to Lorenzo de Zavala, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Texas. During World War II, the area south of Market to the Ship Channel, and what is now DeZavala St. to the tollway, was part of the U.S. Army San Jacinto Ordnance Depot.
Channelview was the site of a notable murder plot occurring in 1991. Wanda Webb Holloway was upset that her daughter, Shanna, had failed two consecutive years to make her junior high school’s cheerleading squad. Holloway came to believe that the fault lay not with Shanna’s inability to make the squad, but with Verna Heath, whose daughter, Amber Heath, was a main rival of Shanna’s. Holloway asked Terry Harper, her former brother-in-law, to find a hit man to murder Verna Heath, hoping that Amber would be distraught and perform poorly in tryouts, thus allowing Shanna to make the squad. However, Harper notified authorities of the plot, and an undercover police officer arrested Holloway. Holloway argued that Harper was guilty of entrapment, saying that she never intended anyone to get killed. A jury sentenced Holloway to 15 years for attempted murder. The story was made into a 1993 HBO movie, The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom. Channelview is also home to Houston Astros pitcher Chris Sampson and former outfielder Glenn Wilson. Another famous athlete to come out of Channelview is former Chicago Bears (NFL) wide receiver Johnny Knox. He graduated class of 2005 from Channelview High School.
In 1997 Coy Wayne Wesbrook committed mass murder in Channelview, killing five people.
