Often, new homeowners (much to their dismay) will purchase a home and find that their house came with more problems than they bargained for. After a few signs, it is clear that their water heater is faulty. This is an all too common problem- that surprisingly can be overlooked by your average home inspector!

What goes on at my appointment?
Our Master Plumbers are usually available same day or next day to come take a look at your water heater. We offer free initial estimates – this means our master plumber will come by at no cost to look at your water heater and provide you with information and estimates for repair. At this time he will ask you details regarding your water heater- such as how long have the problems been going on for, or how long have you owned the home. He may also ask you how old the water heater is, and if there is any type of service warranty.
What some signs that I have a faulty water heater?
Smell or taste the water. If the hot water has a particularly metallic taste to it, this is an indication that your water heater is malfunctioning.
Listen closely for the noises that your water heater is making. While a good working water heater will make some sounds, loud noises such as pops or cracks are a sign that there is a reaction going on between the heating elements within the water heater. Other unusual noises can indicate that mineral deposits have built up on the components of the water heater- which is another indication that you may have a faulty water heater.
A more obvious sign is if your hot water goes out. This usually means that you have a broken water heater.
Take a look at the water that comes out of the faucet. Does it look rusty? This could indicate an upcoming water heater failure.
Please do not try to service your water heater on your own, call a professional. This can be very dangerous and end up causing costly damage and supplies. Use extreme caution when near or around your water heater, there are extremely hot surfaces and you can burn yourself easily.
